Crises of (Inter)dependence
October 23, 2026 at 16:00 to October 23, 2026 at 20:00
Gosposka dvorana ZRC SAZU, Gosposka ulica 16, Ljubljana
Organizer: Institute of Philosophy ZRC SAZU
The international workshop Crises of (Inter)dependence will critically examine the conceptual field of autonomy, dependence and independence in the contemporary political context. Its point of departure is a paradox of capitalist modernity that Marx describes as “personal independence founded on objective dependence”: the formal autonomy of the modern subject rests on an increasingly dense network of dependencies that we cannot directly control. This paradox deserves renewed attention at a time when the language of dependence is increasingly mobilized for political ends. The workshop will explore these questions from different perspectives, ranging from reproductive autonomy and subaltern citizenship to technology, the Anthropocene and the rise of nationalism.
Speakers: Naintara Maya Oberoi (AUP), Gaël Caignard (Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3), Marc Crépon (CNRS / ENS-PSL), Jovana Mihajlović Trbovc (ZRC SAZU), Aleš Mendiževec (ZRC SAZU), Tadej Troha (ZRC SAZU) in Alenka Ambrož (ZRC SAZU).
